Taking care of the environment is a responsibility that everyone should feel accountable for. We are very conscious of the impact vehicles have on the environment and so we are always striving to do more to contribute towards a greener economy and to offset our carbon footprint.
As Britain is now one of the leading countries in the fight against climate change, we all need to be aware of environmentally friendly processes that we can adopt within our workplace.
There are various ways to manage waste and use technologies that help to reduce carbon emissions, so we thought we would share what we do as a garage to help tackle the critical environmental issues that we are facing today.
As a priority waste should always be prevented and minimised. If waste can be avoided in the first instance, there is no need to look at recycling or disposal options for the materials. As a garage, we do generate waste, some of which is toxic, such as oil. However, we have processes in place that assure the safe, compliant and environmentally friendly disposal and recycling of our commercial waste which meets the necessary quality and environmental management ISO Standards. Our priority is to ensure that waste is diverted from landfill and recycled or recovered. For this reason, we use a tailored service from Devon Contract Waste who have a Zero to Landfill policy so we can rest assured that our waste is being disposed of in the most environmentally friendly manner possible – at a local recycling centre where possible.
A good example of technologies that we can use to help reduce carbon emissions is LED lighting which provides many environmental advantages. LED lights are up to 80% more efficient than traditional lighting such as fluorescent and incandescent lights. 95% of the energy in LEDs is converted into light and only 5% is wasted as heat. This is compared to fluorescent lights which convert 95% of energy to heat and only 5% into light. LED lights also draw much less power than traditional lighting. Less energy use reduces the demand from power plants and decreases greenhouse gas emissions. We have now changed all our lights to ECO friendly energy saving LED lights in our showroom and workshop.
In addition, our modern workshop is designed to be light and airy – maximising natural daylight meaning that it is energy efficient as possible.
We enjoy contributing towards looking after the environment and saving our planet! If you would like to hear more about our efforts, we are always happy to chat and also listen to any ideas that you may have.
